Wow! I am in my 11th year as a library media specialist. It is the best job in the world because I get to book talk, read aloud, and advise students and teachers about books/resources they would enjoy or find useful.
I love volunteers so join me at a book fair or just to help keep the library organized. I always say..."It takes a village to run a library!"
My teaching career has taken me from teaching HS Home Economics to Early Childhood to Elementary Ed and finally to getting my LMS at the University of North Texas. Bastrop has been my home since 1989. My husband Jeff and I have one daughter who is working on her law degree from The University of Houston School of Law.
I enjoy reading all sorts of books, including children's lit, YA lit, and books about the mind/brain. I am passionate about literacy; and I keep learning and trying new things to make reading fun and inviting for our students.
Our big focus at Mina is "Eyes on Text"--read, read, read. In order to develop vocabulary, fluency, and an understanding of our cultures and communities, reading widely is the key. With that, our leader Mrs. King has helped promote reading through many different initiatives. One of which is Accelerated Reader. We have been doing it for about 4 years now and the results are excellent. If you want more information about how it works just email me. cfiebrich@bisdtx.org
