Week 1: All classes discuss rules, procedures, expectations, and create illustrations of how to be successful in school. (8/22)Week 2: All classes help to create a social contract, discuss art room helpers, and explore how artists use line in their work. (8/29)K - Identify and use a variety of lines (zig zag, wavy, straight, curve, loop, spiral, thick, thin, etc.).1 - Identify and use horizontal, vertical, diagonal and outlines.2 - Identify and use broken (dotted/dashed) and continuous lines.3 - Identify and use hatched and crosshatch lines to create value and an illusion of 3d space in their drawings.4 - Identify and use gesture and action lines.Week 3: All classes explore how lines can be used to create shapes, patterns, and textures. (9/6)K - Use lines and shapes to create artworks.1 - Use lines and shapes to create artworks inspired by Peter and The Wolf.2 - Create artworks inspired by the story, A Bad Case of Stripes.3 - Create balanced artworks inspired by artist Paul Klee’s - The Cat and The Bird.4 - Identify and use lines to create continuous contour and blind contour drawings.Week 4: (9/12)K - Identify and use a variety of colors using What A Wonderful World lyrics (Trees of Green)1 - Identify and use primary and secondary colors for jungle theme pictures of Lions/Monkeys.2 - Continue pattern artworks inspired by the story, A Bad Case of Stripes.3 - Continue chalk pictures inspired by Paul Klee.4 - Continue Blind Contour, set up still life objects and apply knowledge of line.Week 5: (9/19)
K - Continue exploration of colors. (Red Roses Too)
1 - Continue exploration of primary and secondary colors for jungle theme group art.
2 - Practice simplifying animal drawings into simple shapes. Enlarge jungle theme artworks inspired by the story, A Bad Case of Stripes.
3 - Finish Chalk pictures inspired by Paul Klee's Cat.
4 - Continue Blind and Continuous Contour Line Drawings.
Week 6: (9/26)
K - Continue exploration of colors with Lyrics to What A Wonderful World.
1 - Tear and glue shapes to painted paper to create mouse collage inspired by the story, Mouse Paint. Art based on story.
2 - Create art influenced by the work of Salvador Dali.
3 - Explore lines, shapes and perspective in folk art.
4 - Explore how line can create texture and value. Create charcoal drawings of trees.
Week 7: (10/3)
K - Exploration of pattern, based on What A Wonderful World lyrics.
1 - Exploration of movement in art based on story, Giraffes Can't Dance.
2 - Continue art influenced by the work of Salvador Dali.
3 - Complete folk art.
4 - Explore radial balance by working in cooperative groups to create folded paper relief collages.
Week 8: (10/10)
K - Watercolor painting based on Pete the Cat.
1 - Intro to crayon resist, based on Uncle Andy's Cats
2 - Intro to Fiesta themed artwork.
3 - Intro to Fiesta themed artwork.
4 - Continue exploration of radial balance by working individually to create folded paper relief collages.
Week 9: (10/17)
K-4 finish all work from first 9 weeks.
