Gary Long

Gary Long is an experienced educator and administrator currently residing in New Braunfels, Texas, with his wife and their 15-year-old son. Originally from New Jersey, Mr. Long holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. He began his professional career in law enforcement, serving for three years before transitioning into the field of education.
Motivated by a passion for teaching and leadership, Mr. Long earned a Master’s Degree in Education and began his teaching career. Over the next ten years, he taught 5th grade and served as the Assistant Head Football Coach at the high school level. His background also includes five years of experience coaching college football, further enriching his contributions to student development both inside and outside the classroom. Mr. Long also obtained his second Master’s Degree in School Leadership and began his school leadership career.
In 2014, Mr. Long and his family relocated to Texas. In 2015, he began his administrative career with South San Antonio Independent School District. He first served as an Assistant Principal at South San High School for three years. He was then appointed Safety and Security Coordinator at the district level, a role that leveraged his previous law enforcement experience.
Mr. Long was later tasked with developing and leading the district’s Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP), where he served as Principal for six years. Concurrently, he served as the district’s Hearing Officer for seven years, playing a key role in student discipline and due process.
Mr. Long is honored to join Bastrop Independent School District as part of the leadership team at Cedar Creek Elementary School. He is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-achieving environment for all students and looks forward to serving the Cedar Creek community.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Long is a devoted husband and father. He enjoys spending time with his son, who is active in football and wrestling. A native of the Philadelphia area, Mr. Long and his family are avid supporters of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and 76ers. His son aspires to attend Penn State University and continue the family’s strong ties to the Northeast.
